Re: Good Morning

Good afternoon all. Sunshine and showers and very cold here. Starry I currently have an online friend who has been diagnosed with covid and is in quarantine. Her description of her symptom are horrendous. She cannot stop coughing and her chest feels as though all her ribs are broken, breathing hurts her. We're both having the vaccine as soon as it is offered to us. Gordon is in the first block the over 8o's and care homes. Despite my problems, I'm in tier 3 the over 70's as far as I can make out.  Once we've both had the two vaccinations we will be waiting for a month to see how effective it is. I think the reality is we will still be needing to wear masks and social distancing. They have identified another strain of covid which is spreading like mad in London, they hope that it will respond to the current vaccine. I've still to put some of yesterdays food delivery away. Unfortunately, Gordon has blocked the access to the dining room and I can't get in there. It's full of stuff from the caravan, which we were supposed to be taking down to the flat today. Unfortunately, he can barely move today so another day with no progress. I'm beginning to wish I'd kept the van and left everything there until the charity shops start accepting donations. Hindsight is a wonderful thing!  have a good day all and stay safe.

Re: Good Morning

Good afternoon all, another day with no progress. Gordon felt fine when he finally woke up, He had his shower and then started to feel poorly. I have now established that my Christmas cards are in the dining room and out of reach. There is a huge pile of items in the doorway and beyond. It's far too heavy for me to lift. We're shielding so can't go out and get more.  Hopefully tomorrow Gordon will feel better and might be up to shifting everything. I can but hope.   It's cold and wet here, the curtains have been drawn early to shut the day out. Stay safe and warm all.

Re: Good Morning

Evening all. I wish I hadn't put weight on Sally, I've put a stone on since lockdown. After a particularly stressful day dealing with Gordon's health and his refusal to contact his doctor. I had a shock, Gordon took my blood pressure which is sky-high. It was the wakeup call I needed. I'm going to contact my GP tomorrow and hopefully will get either advice or an appointment to see someone. It worried Gordon, so much he contacted the surgery and the GP has altered his medication.  Hopefully, I can relax now. I am going on a diet, control my salt,  sugar and cut out my strong morning coffee. I will have some of the Christmas goodies but a much-reduced portion. It's going to be very hard but I have no choice.  Take care and stay safe.

Re: Good Morning

Good morning everyone from windswept and flooded Cornwall. My garden at the back is under 3" of water, fed up with it now. Even the front garden has deep pools now, that's not happened before. The housing assoc don't seem to want to push Kier to put it right, and as for the new windows I can't see those being installed in my lifetime.

I have my Xmas order from Asda booked for 22/12 and hopefully will get everything on the list, I've not gone mad, it's mostly things I would have had anyway, but I did get the usual pud, meat and treats. All things i shouldn't have but what the heck.  Christmas for me isnt any different to any other year to be honest, on my own, full control of the remote, eat what I want when I want, and just chilling. Daresay there will be the usual 5 mins either Christmas day or Boxing day when I burst into tears thinking about those no longer here, but then once that's been and gone I'm ok again. I think about them all each day but for some reason once for a    few minutes I just have to have a little cry. I think its the feeling of being totally alone in the world. But I'm thankful and grateful I'm reasonably healthy, which I'd rather be than have a few grumpy relatives telling me what to do

Our numbers here in Cornwall were very low, 19 per 100k, but for the last 2 weeks they've been rapidly rising and are now 30 something. Lower than the rest of the country but rapidly catching up.

We have torrential rain and wind again today. I did manage to get out and paint my new wheelie bin store yessterday but with the downpour overnight and today there are a few bald patches on the lid which was the last thing I painted, so I'll have to go over that again. After buying the wheelie bin store we are now told that Cornwall Council will be taking back the large green 240L wheelie bins in January and issuing us with 180L ones. So the bin store will be a bit big but I daresay I can make use of the extra space, the 2 bins are not that much different in overall size. We're also being issued with one 20L bin for outdoor food waste (something I never seem to have), and one 7L for indoor food waste.  The worms and the hotbins have most of my waste, even the paper and cardboard so there's only glass, tins and some plastics to recycle. I have to admit I haven't been recycling, I throw it all in the black bag and put it in the bin. A friends son works at the local tip and said when the lorries get back there everything goes in the same skips so he can't see the point of householders spending hours sorting out their recycling. Typical.

Covid vaccine: Well I don't know how far down the list I am for it, our surgery is useless anyway so no-one seems to know anything about when it will be rolled out for over 80's even. It suits me if its later rather than sooner, as I think personally I'd rather have the Oxford one, as it's a tad safer. The current one does react with people who have allergies or who have adverse reactions to meds etc. And seeing as I seem to be in that category of late, I'd rather wait for the Oxford one to come along. But I definately want to have the vaccine.

Carol I hope you and Gordon are soon feeling better with your aches and pains, its miserable enough being in pain, but when you both suffer it must be worse as one of you has to cook or make the tea/coffee.

Stay warm and safe folks!

Re: Good Morning

Afternoon all, not feeling too great today have a bit of a headache, probably missing my coffee and feeling very tired. We have now got rid of most of the electrical gadgets from the caravan.  I suspect they were dealers but I really just needed to clear them.  A nice man is calling today for a small iron, he wants it for his granddaughter who is at uni. My walker is now in the car as well as the chair bed which is going down to the flat. I can actually get into the dining room now, might even find my Christmas cards. They won't get delivered by Christmas but I'm sure everyone will understand.  My charity cards arrived yesterday and are now in quarantine for another 4 days. Hopefully, they'll get used next year. Stay safe and warm.

Re: Good Morning

Good afternoon all, hope everyone is well and safe. Sally, I've been saying for weeks that another lockdown is going to happen. Boris has typically fudged Christmas, he's given advice which will be mostly ignored. Many people will ignore him and continue just as before. Once they get together they will be drinking and forgetting about social distancing and masks. Yet more lives are going to be lost and the NHS will be overwhelmed. We are staying in lockdown until we've had our jabs and seen how effective it is. We might be down in June and perhaps we may be able to have a meetup.  Take care all and stay safe.

Re: Good Morning

Hello everyone.

The weather is very pleasant at the moment after all that rain yesterday. Heard there was a lot of flooding locally.

Got a new prescription going to the doctors for hubby. Hopefully a change of medication will calm him down.

Getting ready for Christmas but it feels like a bit mish mash this year.

Just been chatting to someone who is 80 but they haven't received a vaccination call yet. She heard they are doing over 90s first.

Someone in another group posted the link so you can pop your age in etc and find out when you could be called for vaccination.

Re: Good Morning

AFternoon all.

Starry no George won't be coming over this Christmas, I don't have a support  bubble and neither does he. We didn't form one as he is still working at Trago Mills so is in contact with hundreds of people every day and wears just the normal useless type mask. I've since given him one of my N95/FFP3 masks. So if he spent xmas here I would be at high risk.

Diane that calculator is next to useless, I tried it 3 times and it doesn't seem to be working, you can't put your age in and it doesn't give you any results. LOL

It's another wet day here. I keep wondering whether to take some luxuries off my christmas delivery from asda, it's a bit expensive this time, but it is for 2 weeks supply of normal stuff as well as the treats, but decided to leave them on. Stuffing my face with goodies will make me feel more cheerful

George's xmas present arrived today, or one of them, so I can wrap that up today and put it in the bag ready to drop off at his this week. It's one of those beanie hats with the wifi bluetooth speakers in, so if youre out walking, which he is in his spare time, he can press the button on the hat and it should control his mobile, so he can keep his phone in his pocket safe. Thought it was a brill idea and a good present for him, men are usually difficult to buy for aren't they.

Enjoy your Sunday ladies. Keep warm!

Re: Good Morning

Good afternoon all. My BP was in the green zone this morning, but only because it was taken just after I got up. Gordon has lost one of his hearing aids and gets very frustrated when he can't catch what I'm saying He gets angry and snaps at me I try to calm him down but he mishears that and so it goes on. He must always have the last word. It's no wonder my BP is high. He's the kindest, nicest man but can be verbally aggressive when he feels thinks he is being got at. I've now told him he either controls his temper or he goes back to his flat.  I made sure he heard every word then got told I was shouting. hmmmm!

Re: Good Morning

Evening all. What a miserable wet and windy day again, the garden is still under 3" of water out the back, the poor little dogs get soaked when they run out to spend a penny, and little Dora's tummy and chest gets soaked as she's only got little short legs. Pity they don't use the gravel area that's supposed to take the excess water away (except it doesn't, it acts like a solid barrier and the water backs up across the lawn).

Not done a single thing today apart from get some xmas presents sent off via Amazon. I wasn't going to send any this year, but as I've received some I couldnt very well not return the favour.

I was hoping to see the Bethlehem Star tonight when Jupiter and Saturn align but as usual it's cloudy and you can't see anything. We seem to miss everything like that in Cornwall, it's either foggy or cloudy. Missed the last eclipse due to rain. pfffft....

Well the new restrictions have kicked in, not that anyone takes any notice. The crowds at the train stations and on the coaches was horrendous. Our local news was telling us the people heading down here, which there are hundreds so far, will be bringing the new variant with them, so I expect we'll either have a total lockdown after Christmas, which I think we should, or we'll all be infected one way or another. And now France has closed its borders to us, things will be in short supply. What a cheerful end to the year LOL
I don't understand why we are still accepting flights from Brazil, the country with the highest number of cases. We should have stopped those flights weeks ago.

On that cheery note I'll say enjoy your evening ladies, stay warm and stay safe.
