Re: Good Morning

Good morning everyone.

Oh Carol how upsetting and poor Brodie. Bonnie didnt have any of those symptoms with Cushings, it's the opposite infact, so not sure how the vet thought it might have been. At least that's one thing to strike off the list though.

With WLD they cough like someone with a chest infection all the time, not just once or twice a day. Its a bit like kennel cough but a lot more phlegmy and the pulse is a lot faster as the heart has to work harder to supply oxygen to the lungs.

Has she tested him for Heart Worm, as the symptoms of low pulse and the way he's behaving sounds more like that to me, as you know heart worm damages the heart.  I definately don't think it's WLD but I'm no vet, just speaking from experience with my dogs.

Why does he need a pacemaker if it's he's Bradicardiac, can't she put him on vetmedin first to see if that helps? That's what Gizmo is on and my vet said they prescribe it for most heart problems.

I disagree with her saying he's byocardic because that is a slow heart beat with slow breathing (not panting) with the opposite symptoms regarding him wandering around and being confused . Here's a link about it, it's quite common in dogs, BUT usually young dogs and doesn't happen very often if at all in older dogs.

https://www.petmd.com/dog/conditions/cardiovascular/c_dg_abnormal_heart_rhythm

And if for any reason he was byocardic then a pacemaker is not helpful or necessary and never something that's carried out.

Here's an interesting article written by someone with a dog that died of WLD as you will see the sypmtoms are not the same as Brodies, and the treatment is definately not the same as recommended by your vet.  And inhalers are never used on dogs, that's just ridiculous for her to say that. They're given diuretics, steroids, heart tablets, and drugs to open the bronchial tubes, plus cough suppressants.

Is it possible to take Brodie to another vet for a second opinion? It seems to me that as she knows Brodie's health is covered by the CT it may influence her recommendations.

Right changing the subject, I'm off to see the pharmicist later today to get my BP checked, I feel slightly better so I think it must be lower than it was, so fingers crossed. I'll take my new wrist monitor with me to compare to make sure it's working properly, it's an Omron which is the recommended brand so it should be working well. I've not tested it since it arrived tuesday.

My side is a bit tender where that lump is, I'm trying not to get too stressed over what that is, and convincing myself its just a little hernia. I've never had one before but assume it would feel like this if I did. The only organs that side is the liver and colon/stomach so hopefully they're all ok.

It's a grey old day here today but not raining. Which is something to be grateful for. Although it's all change at the w/e isnt it, with another storm on the way. Pfffft.

Sorry this is a long post, I wanted to help Carol as much as possible with Brodie's problem. x

Re: Good Morning

Thaks for your help Hazel.   I've done some research online and it appears that Nexgard and Bravecto can cause neurological problems. Dogs have been dying. I'm convinced that is what caused Brodie's problems. He's still somewhat quiet, but the shakes and twitches have almost ceased. He's no longer confused and we are both sleeping.   The ECG did show a problem with his heart. Cara is trying to find the cause of the problem. The x ray will show if there is a problem with his lungs causing it. If the lungs are clear then it's a heart problem and it will be dealt with by medication.  The Cinnamon Trust make all the decisions. Brodie has just had his breakfast and he pranced across the kitchen. A good sign.
Not looking forward to the storm tomorrow as I have big trees at the back of me. Stay safe everyone.  Starry hope you and Paul stay safe above the waterline. It's going to be a high tide. It will be interesting to see how much damage will be done to the coastline.

Re: Good Morning

Good morning everyone.

Its sunny and bright here and I've got some wash out drying.

Hubby's sister and hubby are coming to see us on Tuesday so I'm titivating the house. Goodness only knows why I feel the need to make sure the house is in tip top condition!!! I found a sample pot of magnolia that was in the house when we moved in ... so I've stirred it up and dabbed some on the plaques Paul glued on the door to cover the screen holes of the other towel rail and although the door is white it looks brilliant. So I've gone round the house dabbing all the chips and bits I've found and it looks great!!! Honestly. I could be crocheting.

The storm is due to arrive later on this afternoon. But our weatherman said we'd had stronger winds but these seem very sustained ... for a couple of days.  Well I'm up to date with the washing!!!

Bravecto? I had to take Bonnie and Mojo's flea collars back which were Bravecto as they were both ill and had similar symptoms to Brodie's. Thankfully the reactions took place over a few days of wearing the collars, maybe a week, the vet was very good and refunded me. They're a great idea lasting 9 months but too potent initially I think. I could have lost both dogs if I'd continued with wearing them.  I believe Bravecto do pills too and also an injection, which I wouldn't go near with a bargepole after my experience with it. I stick to Frontline now and traditional flea powder and also spray their bedding and my carpets with Indorex once every couple of months.

I hope the vet can soon discover what the problem is. But whatever it is it's probably excacerbated by the Bravecto if he's still wearing the collar or has the medication in his system from the tablets/injection.

Re: Good Morning

Good morning all. It was very windy during the night, it' seems to have dropped marginally this morning but still very strong. I know they say it's going to continue today and die down over night a bit, but I think Cornwall's probably had the worse of it to be honest, unless this is just a lull. Eye of the storm kind of thing.
No fences down or damage or flying objects so I think I got away with things quite well.

At least if the electric goes down I'll still have internet, as this new fibre is independant of the national grid, although I'm not so sure as the hub is plugged into my electric. So I think that's just a lot of sales rubbish on BT's part. I'll still have my EE mobile data though thank goodness. I'd hate to be completely cut off.

I see the people from Wehan have arrived in Milton Keynes. I think its a major mistake bringing all these people back who have been in the epicentre of the outbreak. They showed no signs they said, well hello? It has a 14 day incubation period and who knows when or if they were infected? And the fact those coach drivers wear no masks or protective clothing who take them to the isolation centres, and then get out the coach and go home to their families. Infecting them probably and on it goes. I think this is going to be much worse than we're being told. But as usual it's too late to bolt the stable door as we weren't taking action soon enough.

Not going anywhere today and taking it easy.

keep safe everyone. xxx

Re: Good Morning

Good morning everyone.

Re: Good Morning

Good morning all, hope you all survived the storm without too much damage.

Starry that's a relief, I read on one news site, think it was Sky, that the first coach drivers they used knew the risks and agreed to take the people to quarantine, but that was the first lot that arrived that ended up in Yorkshire somewhere. So looks like they've tightened it up now thank goodness.

I saw today on BBC News website that the Government have now issued a notice to say that infection from the virus in the UK is now imminent and people should take precautions.  They took their time.

I expect this will affect world trade, already some countries are struggling with a loss of trade, and obviously China. I bet their sales online have taken a dip.

I was talking to some friends on Twitter and it's amazing the amount of them that are already stockpiling groceries, tinned and dried food and water. I can understand it if they live in a city or large town, but I suppose it could strike anywhere, so even rural areas could be at risk.  One of my friends said she has her groceries delivered so she wasn't bothered, but then someone added the delivery driver could be infected or someone infected could have sneezed or drooled over her groceries as they were packed.

It all sounds rather sci-fi but it is worth thinking about. So I read a few preppers sites, and there were dozens on there asking for advice on what to stock up on due to the virus. I suppose our generation is used to having a large stock cupboard (although not large enough to keep us going several months or a year), and the millenials have never had to keep food at home and depend more on daily or weekly shops and takeaways. So they don't have a clue what to get.

I'm toying with increasing my tin stuff, I've still got tins of new potatoes from the snowmaggedon cupboard a few years back when it was supposed to be the worse snow for a 100 yrs that never happened. lol What I did learn from that was, I stocked up on cheap tinned meat and things, instead of buying the stuff I actually like, so I had to put the tins of minced beef into something else to make them edible. This time if I do it, I'll make sure I buy decent tinned stuff. Buying cheap is a good way to get a good stock up quickly but if it ever came to having to use it cos there was nothing else or you didnt want anyone coming to your house with contaminated supplies, and you had to eat it you wouldnt really enjoy it. Although I guess if you didnt like it you wouldnt be tempted to eat too much at once and your supplies would last longer. LOL

It's an interesting subject really. Sorry if I went on a bit about it.

Enjoy your day folks! x

Re: Good Morning

Good morning all. It's cold here but the sun is out.  Had to take my car in for service this morning went out to find that wheelie bin had been blown over against my car now got a small dent and a big scrape. Apart from chairs blown over no other damage.  My cousin is now the proud owner of a three piece rattan sofa set, and a trampoline all of which landed in her garden. She's still waiting for the cushions, hopefully someone will claim them. She didn't say if they were damaged.

The flu is worrying, I have a compromised immune system so I'll be pulling up the drawer bridge and flooding the moat.  I've still got a lot of tins etc in my larder I always keep a stock in the winter. Going to start taking my pills and potions to charge up my immune system. I don't have enough freezer space and an thinking of buying a small freezer for the sun lounge as I need meat and vegetables. My current fridge freezer doesn't have enough storage space. Just got to make room in the sun  lounge.
 Have a good day all.

Re: Good Morning

Weather update:   After horrendous lightening storms over night we've just had terrific wind and torrential rain accompanied by thunder claps. It lasted about 10 mins now it's blue sky and sunshine. Weird LOL

Carol are you buying another freezer for the virus emergency should we need to quarantine ourselves ?
