Re: Good Morning

I'm not sure that's appropriate Sally! Glad you haven't got any after-effects. Yesterday Gordon did my tyres, the compressor didn't work, the tyre he was inflating deflated and he thinks I've got a puncture!  He also thinks I've got a flat battery and he declared my car unsafe to drive.  The garage I normally go to is close down due to the virus. Thankfully I had one of their cards and the mechanic will be coming to take a look tomorrow.  He'll check the car over, if I need a new tyre he'll get it. If he gets it on the road I'll need to get petrol so that I can drive to Southampton on Friday. To add to my problems my MOT is due on the 17th. That will also be arranged by the mechanic, Hopefully, he will take it and return it when it's done, being as we're shielding. I'm wondering what else can go wrong?

Re: Good Morning

I saw a local cab company (not our area) was doing catch a cab to get a jab to help people get to their centre.

Re: Good Morning

Starry glad to hear you still feel fine after your jabs. Thats great news.

Oh dear Carol, I hope you dont have a flat tyre, if it wasn't flat before you parked up, it sounds more like Gordon's let the air out when he was trying to inflate the tyres. Fingers crossed. My garage come and collect my car and then deliver it at 5pm when it has to go in the garage which is really handy. They wipe everything down when they get in it, and again when they bring it back.

I like that slogan Diane, grab a cab to get a jab Quite snappy. I hope they leave their windows wound down and wear masks. I wonder how they manage to clean the cab after each passenger, they can't get many during a day surely with the clean inbetween.

Still not heard about my jab yet. I went on the diabetes uk website yesterday and they were saying over 65's with diabetes aren't put into any priority group so it could be ages before I get one if that's right. I'm not happy as I have an appointment at one of the big vaccination hubs Tuesday morning to have my 2 yearly eye examination for diabetes. infact I'm going to phone them tomorrow to ask if it's possible to reschedule the appointment for after I've had my vaccination. The last thing I want is to catch covid after being in isolation since last March.

Re: Good Morning

I wouldn't be worrying about the cleaning between cabs too much Hazel. I'm sure bus seats aren't cleaned between either.

I was thinking the other day about blood pressure monitors. I've never seen the cuff cleaned after being on an arm or the stethoscope that is placed on your skin either.

Re: Good Morning

Morning ladies!

Diane, funny you should say that about bp monitors and stethoscopes. I was only thinkng the same thing the other day. The last time I had mine checked at the doctors was at the beginning of January, the nurse was going to give me an arm monitor to bring home to check my bp for a week, she took it out of the box and put it on her arm to demonstrate how to use it, I already have my own wrist monitor, an Omron the same as the surgery uses so I declined the offer. She took the monitor off her arm and put it back in the box LOL

I phoned the surgery this morning to see if they're starting on the over 70's and to double check I was in Group 5 and they said I'd be put in with the over 70's and it could be in a week or it could be in a month, depending on when the vaccines arrive as they never know when they're coming or how much they're getting. What a carry on. Anyway with that information I was able to phone the eye clinic and get taken off the list for next week and it will be rescheduled for April.  I'd much rather go once I've been vaccinated as I'll have some protection.

I'd eaten all my fat and sugar free date loaf yesterday so last night made a carrot cake without fat. It's low sugar as it only has 60g of sugar in it and no fat just olive oil. Never baked a cake with olive oil before, anyway it had risen quite well, so I will see what it tastes like today. I just hope it doesn't kick off my gallbladder/liver as that seems to be settling down quite nicely now.

Iceland brought my Slimming World meals this morning at 9am. I had 8 plus 2 of their scrummy malted granery loaves. i've managed to get one in the freezer, just. And the other one's in the bread bin. Those SW meals are delicious and quite big too, 500g for one. I like the oriental and mediterranean ones best.

Sunshine today for a change, but we had torrential rain about 6am, it absolutely pelted it down.

Re: Good Morning

Good afternoon all. Well, I did say what can go wrong next, Whilst being a piggy and eating some popcorn I broke a filling! Half the tooth has disappeared. I've been having trouble with it for the last two months. I have a small lump which inflates and deflates every day. It's been a bit sore but, as long as I keep cleaning it twice a day it behaves itself. I have a phobia about extractions after having a nasty experience when I was a child.  The longer I put it off the better chance of avoiding covid. I had to cancel my vaccination after putting my back out yesterday. I'm in a lot of pain today and can barely stand. I've rebooked for next week at a nearby hospital. I'm assuming it will be an Oxford vaccine - do hope so. I went in my bedroom to make the call as Gordon had the TV on.  I've never memorised my mobile number so without thinking I stood up to get it and groaned as the pain caught me, it was so sharp it took my breath away.  I think the operator thought I was having a heart attack as he offered to call an ambulance for me. I did feel an idiot.

Re: Good Morning

Sorry to hear you've had to cancel your vaccine appointment Carol, but thank goodness you managed to get one nearer home. So it worked out better in a way. Don't be frightened of having a tooth out though. There's no-one more petrified than me of the dentist, but I had to have a large back tooth out last year during lockdown and the dentist practice was fantastic, I felt totally safe. And when I went in to have the tooth out I had a about 3 injections which weren't nice but not unbearable, and once he put his instrument on the tooth and then on the tray which was only a few seconds he told me the tooth was out. I honestly didnt feel a thing it was wonderful. I then had to sit in the car for 20 mins biting on a wad of cotton wool to make sure the bleeding had stopped and then could go home. It's nothing like it used to be when we were kids Carol. The worse bit is the injection but even that's nothing like the old fashioned ones.

Starry so sorry to hear you're MIL has the virus. Let's hope 18 days is long enough to protect them all at the care home. There's a few care homes in Cornwall with new outbreaks of covid. I wonder if it has anything to do with some of the care workers refusing to have the vaccine. I think if they work in a care home or in the community visiting people's homes then the vaccination should be compulsory, it's other people's lives they're playing around with and not thinking of. They're very selfish, not really the ideal type of person to work as a carer I'd have thought.

Re: Good Morning

Sorry to hear about your MIL Starry. Fingers crossed for a good outcome for her.

What a shame about not being able to make your jab appointment Annie. Hope you make the next one. I wouldn't worry about extractions. They are so different from what we had to suffer in our childhood

Re: Good Morning

Hazel and Diane, thanks for the advice about the extractions and for the advances in dentistry. I shan't worry too much now. My cousin has the same problem as me and like me, she's going to try to leave it until she's had both jabs and they've had time to work. My mechanic came yesterday and thankfully no puncture. He's going to arrange for my MOT to be done and return my car to my driveway. He had a quick look at my tyres and he said he thought they might be borderline and I might need three new ones.  I was expecting that as I was told during last year's inspection at the local council MOT testing centre that two tyres would need replacing soon. Have a good day all and stay safe.
